His roar at your back in the familiar space. Have you been here before, is this not the first chase?

Windows shatter, the phantasm thrashed, and all else ceased to matter as you braced for the crash.

This piece is based on some recurring dreams I have been having for years. They often feature different animals, big cats being especially common. Usually, these creatures come after me in places or buildings that are strangely distorted versions of familiar spaces. My grandparents' house for instance, or a neighborhood I once knew.

I try to escape these beasts only to be attacked whereupon I have to physically fight the creatures. In many one of these dreams, I am terrified, but I always win the fight and in the end, the beast is usually (but not always) tamed and kind.

I have come to think of these dreams as being representative of the fears that we make bigger than ourselves in our minds. So often, when we finally face our fears we realize they are made up of gentler things than the roaring terror we once perceived them to be, and if they are truly vicious, we sometimes discover strengths we never knew we had.
