Wonder
I am your wild and rare, your otherworldly in the everyday. I will be the sanctuary of strange you sought before your limbs grew, and your heart wandered adrift into the doldrums. I am yours, if your promise to wonder.
I became inspired to paint this piece as I recalled a memory from around the first time I envisioned the Neon Stag. I was walking on a dirt road near my family cabin and I saw a funny little house supported on a tall, stilt-like foundation. Beneath the house, there was a sleeping doe. The sight was so special, so full of wonder, a feeling so many prune out of their lives as they age when they began to feel that everything needs a logical explanation. I try to take wonder, perhaps one of the best medicines to avoid apathy, as often as possible, and here, I offer you a dose as well.
